'Twas the Best of Summers
This summer has been a ton of fun! I did some traveling, started therapy again, and finally got the diagnoses I suspected for a long time.
The Best:
- Visiting friends and family in Houston, NYC, and Wyoming.
- While my trip to Houston was plagued by roaches, rats, and a city wide power outage, I still enjoyed time with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and my childhood bestie (shoutout Mags).
- My mission companion and I explored Wyoming and South Dakota together. We haven't spent that much time together in almost 10 years. It was so nice to visit her and her family. It was such a relaxing weekend filled with new memories, funny quotes, hiking, and landmarks to mark off my bucket list.
- NYC I went to visit my best friends before their baby comes on September 3rd. We spent time organizing and decluttering the apartment. I also got to see a few of my old coworkers. One of them had a baby a few months ago and it was so nice to hang out with him and his family.
- Starting therapy and getting diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety.
- It's so nice to know that what is going on in my brain is no neurotypical. My whole life I've struggled to feel "normal" and was constantly plagued with intrusive thoughts and mind clutter. I have also spent years struggling with sleep issues, racing thoughts, overcommitting to things, burn out, forgetfulness, overstimulation due to noises and lights, and emotional regulation. I have learned a lot of strategies over the years that make my chaotic brain easier to live with. One of the things I do regularly is make video reminders for myself to help with my obsessive thoughts.
- Starting medication for anxiety.
- I've only been on the medication for a few weeks. I've been able to sleep a bit more than usual and I've noticed that my emotions are not quite as erratic as they have been.
- Building my relationships with my local friends.
- Walking, babysitting, chatting, and finding fun new foods/experiences have been some of my go-to hang outs with friends. I love spending time with the people I love.
- Strengthening my relationship with my little brothers and parents.
- Seriously this has been the best thing ever. I love going over to their house to visit, vent about dating, gossip, and just spend time with them. My mom's candy drawer is also a sight to behold. She has the best snackity snacks.
